Mercury Meltdown Revolution for the Nintendo Wii

The eagerly awaited (after much delay) Mercury Meltdown Revolution for the Nintendo Wii is released this week.

The original Mercury game, which achieved much success on the PSP, has lacked the technology to fully support the gameplay but with the ingenious Wii Remote Mercury can at last live up to its full potential.

The game involves guiding a blob of Mercury through a series of increasingly hazardous levels without spilling' too much.

This is achieved (in a manner similar to the Money Ball games) by tilting the floor on which the blob slides. You do this by tilting the Wii remote in the direction you wish the floor to move, it is a simple control system requiring no confusing button combinations and is the best use of the controller since the Wii Sports games. The Mercury itself is beautifully rendered and reacts just as real mercury would; moving as a gelatinous mass which can split apart into smaller sections and is even affected by temperature.

Each level of the game is a puzzle in which you will need change the properties of the Mercury in order to the reach the goal.

This could appear daunting but the excellent tutorial teaches you how to use the different floor surfaces, paint and divide the Mercury and introduces you to friends and foes you will meet in the game.

For those who still struggle you can skip any level of the game so there is no danger of getting stuck in a tricky spot.

There is also no time limit on each level; however there is a par' time to aim to beat making it ideal for newcomers to the console and hardcore gamers alike.
