Time Crisis has been the meat of arcade gamer's diets for long over a decade now. Now Time Crisis 4
is available for PlayStation3 owners to get their teeth into and the new Guncon 3 even supports HD televisions.
It's blatantly obvious from the start that
Time Crisis does not push the PlayStation3's technology in any way. It would in
fact be fair to say that the graphics are barely better than what the
PlayStation2 is capable of, yet the incredibly addictive gameplay
that Time Crisis is famous for is still present and the new Guncon
3 shows incredible promise that could potentially give birth to a new breed of lightgun gaming.
Time Crisis 4 has been in the arcades for
quite some time now but the new remake for the PS3 console has given rise to a
brand new feature that absolutely blew me away - FPS mode.
For those of you not familiar with video
game related acronyms, FPS stands for first-person shooter and is obviously a
shooting game played from a first-person perspective. Because the Guncon 3 has two analogue sticks on it, FPS' can be played
like they would with a standard controller but has the added functionality of
being able to aim at the screen with something that actually resembles a gun.
Time Crisis 4 isn't particularly a great
game, it's getting quite old and consequently the graphics are looking a little
dated. But the game is still fun. The one thing that is really awe-inspiring is
the Guncon 3. It's well made, well thought out,
unbelievably accurate and comes in a disgusting bright orange colour. Now the last point doesn't seem like a
good thing at first, but when you consider that we wont
have idiots running around the streets, trying to hold up post offices with it,
I'm sure you will agree that it's actually a very sensible colour.
We would love to see new Resident Evil
games that take advantage of this incredible new controller, or downloads of the old classic, Point Blank from the PSN. The
prospect of what this lightgun can do is amazing.
