THE sound of the drums echoed around a family centre in Southampton as a musical extravaganza was staged.

Children and parents at Surestart Weston got the chance to take part in the day that was aimed at showcasing different types of music to the youngsters.

Instruments from around the world were played and children had the chance to try out their own musical skills on large drums.

There was also the chance for parents and youngsters to make their own instruments. The event was declared a success by deputy manager Lorraine Torode.

She said: "The idea behind the day was to encourage families to the centre for something a bit different.

"Music is a great way of bringing people together."
