Torrid Thursday, but passions cool on Mondays

THURSDAY is by far the most popular night of the week to conduct an affair, according to IllicitEncounters.com, the UK's biggest extra-marital dating website.

More than 38 per cent of members of the website surveyed said they always tried to meet their lovers on a Thursday, while the least popular for liaisons is a Monday night, with just three per cent saying that was their favoured day.

"Saturdays are a no-no because suspicions may arise, plus there is the issue of family commitments," said a spokeswoman for IllicitEncounters.com. "Thursday is close enough to the weekend for late-night lovers to be able to swing a secret day off on Friday - or just battle through tired in the knowledge that the weekend is not far off.

"Monday is the least popular, because a late night on a Monday means that some people are not getting back up to speed at work until Wednesday.

"Sunday is a popular night - members gave the reason that they could claim early or distant meetings they needed to travel to."

Members of the website were asked: Which is the night of the week you are most likely to have a date with your lover?' 1,356 responded - 787 men and 569 women.

The late-night lovers' league table is: 1. Thursday (38.5 per cent).

2. Friday (18.5 per cent).

3. Sunday (16 per cent).

4. Wednesday (11 per cent).

5. Saturday (eight per cent).

6. Tuesday (five per cent).

7. Monday (three per cent).
