Hampshire Food Festival expands for 2008
The hugely popular Hampshire Food Festival is expanding to the whole month of July 2008 to cram in more opportunity to take part in events celebrating food and drink from Hampshire, and festival organisers are calling on Hampshire businesses and organisations to be part of this.
The 2007 Hampshire Food Festival attracted over 75,000 visitors to over 100 different events at dozens of venues across Hampshire, bringing an estimated £2.2million to the local economy. Up until now, The Hampshire Food Festival has run for a fortnight each year at the end of June, but as the 2008 Festival is also within the national Year of Food and Farming, organisers Hampshire Fare want to make the most of this. Says Derek Beaves, Chairman of county food group Hampshire Fare: "Feedback from festival go-ers showed that they wanted more weekend and evening events. By increasing the Festival to a whole month, we can include every weekend in July and the first week of the school holidays, giving more opportunity to take part. The 2008 Festival also celebrates the UK's Year of Food and Farming, which aims to help young people find out more about the countryside and where their food comes from".
Events are held at numerous venues across the county, including pubs, restaurants, hotels and visitor attractions, farms, food shops and garden centres, theatres, schools, country park and town centres. The Hampshire Food Festival is backed by Hampshire County Council and is Hampshire Fare's showcase event. Hampshire Fare is inviting Hampshire businesses and organisations to be part of the 2008 Hampshire Food Festival by holding an event, as, says Sophie Boxall, their PR & Marketing Officer: "Hampshire Food Festival is a great way to promote your business or cause, and attracts huge press publicity locally, regionally and nationally." Sophie added "It's easy and cost-effective to get involved and be part of the Festival programme. Simply organise an event or special offer to attract visitors - anything from a food or wine tasting, talk, walk, special menu, barbecue, picnic, open day, charity event, cookery demonstration or workshop for example, so long as it incorporates food, drink or craft from Hampshire in some way. Hampshire Fare is here to help with ideas, contacts and marketing, which in turn helps to promote your business or organisation to a huge festival audience." Events are included in 50,000 free Festival programmes published in May and information is updated on www.hampshirefare.co.uk.
