The Orange Rooms

GIVE YOUR RATING OUT OF TEN
Bad Good

THE Orange Rooms is often my venue of choice for a drunken night out with the girls - it's stylish, the DJs play good music and there's just generally a good vibe.

Plus, a personal little favourite, they have hair straighteners in the toilets! The friendly staff serve up all manner of fabulous drinks, but I hadn't really thought of it as a place to eat.

Until now.

Dark and funky at night, the Orange Rooms is surprisingly bright and airy during the day when the doors are opened and diners can spill out onto the patio (weather permitting).

A group of colleagues and I were shown to a funky booth with squashy sofas where I could have happily stayed all day.

We were to share a series of dishes in an attempt to try out all that the new summer menu had to offer.

The emphasis is on grazing - and graze we most certainly did.

First up were tasters from the snacks menu.

Three soups of the day - sunshine (spicy carrot), chilled pea and mint, and summer minestrone - all got the thumbs up.

Next up, a breakfast tortilla, was a particular favourite - the best meal of the day piled up in an almost pizza form.

Sandwich tasters included a fantastic parma ham, applewood cheddar and red onion marmalade ciabatta.

The salad selection was excellent too - the feta, chilli, walnut and herb was a personal preference for this cheese and nut lover.

From the main courses, we tried a scrumptious salmon fillet served with asparagus on a bed of mash and a succulent chicken breast filled with cheddar and tomatoes, wrapped in pancetta.

The marathon meal was rounded off with a sharp summer berry pudding and a rich white chocolate pannacotta.

One of my companions, a vegan, did have difficulty finding menu choices, but on a particularly busy day the chef did try to accommodate her needs.

The portions were generous, the menu choices imaginative and the prices very reasonable.

The new menu is designed to fit around your lunch break and offers a casual dining experience with good freshly prepared food and friendly service.

We're looking forward to returning to indulge in our favourites from the tasting session.
