Grand Day Out..... to Fareham Market
 |
| Sue Hunter |
I certainly had the Monday morning
feeling. And it wasn't helped by the
weather - cold, overcast, wet and horrible.
But it was Monday and I decided to
go to Fareham Market - held on
Fareham High Street from 9am to 3pm
- using my pensioners bus pass.
First you catch a Bluestar number 3
bus from Bargate Street,
Southampton, to Hedge End
Superstores at 10.35am.
I travelled on the First service 26
leaving the Hedge End Superstores at
11.30am.
My bus ride took about 45 minutes
travelling from Hedge End, through
Botley turning right into rural Curdridge
I'd forgotten what a scenic route it
was.
The rolling hills and assorted livestock
that pepper the fields makes you
appreciate just how lucky we are to
live in Hampshire.
Soon we arrive in Park Gate then
travel through Segensworth with all its
new housing on both sides of the
industrial park.
Fareham is a mixture of old and
new.
The high street offers all the usual
names but I came to visit Fareham
Market located in the middle of the
high street.
It reminded me of traditional markets
selling traditional things.
Only these days, traditional are
things like mobile phone covers and
handbags.
It was interesting to find a place like
this because I saw many retired people
buying all kinds of things.
There were lots of places to quench
my hunger and thirst I chose to have a
chilli jacket potato from Baking Potato.
On my way back to the bus I happened
upon the Westbury Manor
Museum otherwise known as the
Museum of Fareham.
Homemade cakes and cups of tea
and coffee were available here.
I wish I had spotted it sooner
because I could have easily spent
more time there.
However, the bus timetable beckoned
and off I went to catch my bus
home after a long but interesting day.
The First service 26 left Fareham
bus station at 5.05pm and arrived at
Hedge End shortly before 5.50pm.
The 5.57pm Bluestar service goes
back to Southampton town centre.
Do I recommend Fareham - yes, if
you have plenty of time.
Step 1: Bluestar number 3

Bus Station.
Step 3: Return Journey:
