history, The Fishers Pond is a must for anyone looking for pint with a view.
The historic Colden Common pub has now been under new management for six weeks and landlady Sue Odam is ready to bring the pub back to its roots and give it back to the community.
After discovering that the pub hosted tea dance victory celebrations in 1946, Sue is set to bring back that tradition on September 12, and host her own charity garden party.
Back in June 1946, more than 100 villages attended the end of war celebrations and Sue hopes her own party will recreate that community feeling while raising money for the National Trust.
Sue's main aim is to make the pub more attractive to the older generation and more mature families, providing a haven from screaming and ill-behaved children.
Sue said: "This is such an exciting time for me and the Fishers Pond, I really want to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where anybody can feel comfortable to pop in and have a drink or a bite to eat.
"When I found out about the event in 1946 it sounded like a great party and I thought it would be a lovely idea to throw another one for today's villagers, as a way of giving the pub back to the community.
"The Fishers Pond is on green belt land and many of our guests enjoy visiting National Trust sites so I thought that this would be something they would be very keen to support.
"However we are looking for local musicians who would be willing to play at the party to add to the atmosphere in return for a complimentary meal."
The garden party will take place on September 12 from 3pm. Tickets cost £10 per person including two drinks and food. Any musician interested in helping to get things swinging should contact Sue on 023 8069 2209.

God, what a tip this place is. In a moment of weakness, we popped in last summer for a pint and left rather hastily after a few sips. The place needs a match, the site clearing and starting again.

I went here with family and friends over the weekend and thought it was a lovely pub, the scenery is lovely and makes for a fantastic relaxing drink. The menu also looked divine. [bold]I have to disgaree with the post previously[/bold] [bold]left[/bold] , I was very impressed!

Was surfing the net and came upon this place which my wife and I visited in 1985. We had a delightful meal with the sounds of Dixieland music permeating the establishment. Bought the band's tapes too. We were enroute to Lyme Regis.
