Wine skills proved
IT took a blind tasting of 25 wines, three champagnes and some of the best food Hampshire had to offer.
But a Winchester sommelier and chef are celebrating after bagging themselves a national award after impressing judges with their food and wine combinations.
Sommelier Clement Robert and Chef Adam Fargin from the Hotel du Vin won the Champagne Jacquart Rising Stars Trophy after pitching their skills against other teams across the country.
Candidates were grilled by judges including Sunday Times wine columnist, Joanna Simon and Charles Campion, food writer, restaurant critic and broadcaster at the competition in London.
Jean-Marc Pottiez, Champagne JACQUART's Managing Director, said: "We were extremely impressed with the calibre of all the entrants. The quality of the food and service and getting the right matches between food and wine are essential to making the dining-out experience special for consumers."
The pair won an all expenses trip to Champagne and Paris for three nights with dinner at two Michelin star restaurants.
