Video game boxing is probably the safest way to box, apart from RSI, I can't think of any other way that your health could really be at risk. Don King Presents: Prizefighter is perfect for this purpose because it provides the opportunity to create your boxer and take him up through the ranks. You could have class, you could be a contender, you could be somebody.
To start with, the control system can seem a little complicated and maybe even daunting. Do I block or dodge? Do I uppercut or hook? Once you play a few matches though, you will start to get used to it and find your flow. Soon you will be knocking out opponents like there's no tomorrow, although this will obviously be more difficult on the harder settings.
Playing through career mode, you can select your fights and there will always be at least a couple of weeks between fights in order to give you time to train. You can sculpt your fighter into your preferred style of fighting by engaging in particular methods of training that boost attributes suited to your needs
As the game progresses, the opposition get tougher but the rewards get greater. When you start off as an amateur, the prize money will be nothing compared to the millions that you could earn later in the game.
The graphics are great but they far from make up the fact that the game gets insanely repetitive. Okay, so you can mix it up by doing some different training, but it never quite feels like enough. It's not quite the knockout title that I'm sure Don King had hoped.
