Dancing in the Streets - Review
The whole audience were swaying in their seats, later we were all dancing in the aisles but I hadn't realised it would really spill on to the streets.
After nearly two-and-a-half hours of Motown classics, no one could resist toe-tapping down the road as they left the theatre last night.
Dancing in the Streets is the ultimate tribute to the greatest musical era of all time.
Each act was note perfect from the Four Tops to Stevie Wonder and from the Temptations to Marvin Gaye.
My personal favourites were the Spice Girls of their time - Diana Ross and the Supremes - with some fantastic renditions of Baby Love, Stop In The Name Of Love and You Can't Hurry Love.
All the legendary hits were there - I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Endless Love, My Girl, Three Times A Lady and of course title track Dancing in the Streets.
They came complete with amazing dance moves, glittering costumes and a great backing band.
The bopping audience refused to allow this spectacular cast to go, cheering them on to a superb encore of Just My Imagination and Ain't No Mountain High Enough with a very noisy standing ovation.
The perfect feel-good show, Dancing in the Streets is greatly improved even since its last impressive appearance at the Mayflower.
A great night.
We felt like we had been transported back to 1960s Detroit.
Dancing in the Streets runs until Saturday at The Mayflower, Southampton. Box Office 02380 711 811.
