Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival
VENTNOR welcomes major names from the jazz world for the annual Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival this weekend.
The island offers a wide array of jazz music for all tastes, whether novice or established jazzer, once again setting names from both sides of the Atlantic and Europe alongside the emerging young talents of today's jazz generation.
There is an international and funky mix of sounds in the Jazz Village including jazz guitarist Cameron Pierre described by Courtney Pine as "the finest jazz guitarist to be produced from Great Britain", saxophonist Tony Kofi, Canadian Tony Smith who does for jazz what Hendrix did for rock, breathtaking multi instrumentalist Gilad Atzmon, the Curios, Ian Shaw, likely lads The Filthy Six, the Jazzcotech Dancers and other festival favourites such as Aydenne Simone.
Main headliners include Maceo Parker (who last year toured with Prince) & His Band featuring Dennis Rollins, the Messin' Around Club and a finale Big Band Swing Concert with Pete Long, Liane Carroll and Ian Shaw.
The F-ire Collective, Royal Academy and Trinity College of Music jazz students showcase emerging young talent.
