IF you're after a pub that everything you want, look no further than the White Star Tavern. Located on Southampton's trendy Oxford Street, the stylish bar and restaurant offers up the ultimate experience for the pub-goer who wants it all.
Whether it's a cold pint and a quick bite at the sleek, spacious bar or a slap-up meal in the chic restaurant, the White Star Tavern ticks all the boxes.
After taking on the pub in 2001, business partners Matt Boyle and Mark Dodd set out to create Southampton's first gastro-pub.
Since then, the White Star has gone from strength to strength, and following a three-month refurbishment the pub now offers 13 beautiful rooms to stay in.
"When we took on the White Star, we just wanted to open a really good pub that serves really good food," said Matt.
"There wasn't anywhere in Southampton where you could get fantastic food in a pub atmosphere, so our aim was to put the two together.
"What everyone should be able to do is have a good meal, a good pint and a good glass of wine, and that's what we offer.
"If you want to sit at the bar and have a sandwich and a pint, we have a lovely spacious bar area for you to do so.
"Alternatively, if you want a three-course meal with a vintage bottle of red, you can do that too."
The blend of good food and good drink has proved a winning combination for the pub. In its first year of trading, the White Star Tavern was awarded Restaurant of the Year by Les Routiers, and it is the only establishment in Southampton to be listed in the Which Good Food Guide.
"We're really proud of the food that we serve here," added Matt.
"It's just simple, traditional food done well.
"Everyone who appreciates good food and drink will find the pub appealing.
"The White Star Tavern is what a pub should be in the 21st century."

I popped in just after 3.00pm last Saturday after reading this review and asked for a sandwich. I was told, politely, that they'd stopped serving food. It annoys me about a lot of places in this country that you're only allowed to be hungry between certain times. It was also annoying as we'd walked from town to try out the White Star. We ended up walking back to Burger King which was a bit of a disappointment but at least serving!

I went here with my fiancee and her parents and was so glad I did. The food was absolutely gorgeous. Well presented and value for money. I was worried at first at the restaurant bit just looks like a normal pub but the food is far from it. Lovely. Go there
