Curtain Call Awards
The Dresser
TFG Theatre Company, Braganza Room, The Queen's Head, Titchfield
ACTOR and manager Sir, is struggling to maintain his health and sanity while striving to ensure that King Lear goes up on time, despite the backdrop of London in the Blitz.
Norman is his slightly effeminate dresser, devotedly ensuring that the show goes on at all costs.
A function room of the local pub (plus excellent food included with the ticket) is one of the more unusual venues to see a play about the backstage relationships within a touring Shakespearean Theatre Company, but the lack of extravagant lighting and effects enabled extremely strong performances by particularly James Jones (Norman) and Taff Wollaston (Sir) to shine.
Both portrayed complex, three-dimensional characters, commanding yet vulnerable, with deft comic timing amongst the intense emotional scenes; Jones' intimidation of starlet Irene was genuinely surprising and menacing. Becky James' direction allowed periods of stillness amongst the action, enabling the play to breathe without dragging.
A compelling and moving drama.

This is the second time the TFGs have graced our stage, both runs have been a great success and all nights have sold out. We hope to get them back soon so keep an eye on our website (www.queenshead-titc

A fantastic production! I was taken aback by the powerful performances of James and Taff. I had no idea what to expect when I agreed to go and see the show in a pub function room, but what I got was an excellent evening's entertainment and some extremely good acting. It was totally engaging from start to finish.
Well done TFG and I hope to see more productions of this quality in the future.
