Curtain Call
The Mennyms Showstoppers
THE popular children's book, by Sylvia Waugh,
explores the antics of a family of rag dolls stuck at
their respective ages and trying to hide their
identities from the outside
world, but an imaginative mind
and a stranger in the attic test
the family's resolve and show
them what's important.
Lyndsay Barnbrook bravely
converted the book into
musical format, with some
excellent musical compositions
and an interesting range of
styles, which worked well together.
Unfortunately the dialogue translated less well
and frequent blackouts stilted the show and made
the plot difficult to follow.
